# Getting started

> Create a Melophrase account, sign in, reset your password, and complete first-time onboarding.

## Creating an account

* **Email and password** — Enter your name, email, and a password. On **[melophrase.com](https://www.melophrase.com/)**, new passwords are **at least 8 characters** (the form shows the exact rule).
* **Sign in with Google** — If you see this button, you can use your Google account instead of a password.

After you sign up with email, check your inbox for a **confirmation message** if one arrives — you may need to click a link before you can sign in.

## Signing in and resetting your password

* Open **[Log in](https://www.melophrase.com/login)** to sign in. New users can open **[Create account](https://www.melophrase.com/register)**.
* **Forgot password?** — Use **[Reset password](https://www.melophrase.com/reset-password)**: enter your email; you will get a message with a **link** to choose a new password. Use the link on the **same device/browser** you usually use, and tap it once. If nothing happens, try opening the link again later or email **[support@melophrase.com](mailto:support@melophrase.com)**.

For a fuller map of these pages (welcome, account, update password), see **[Account and password pages](/website/account-and-password-pages)** on the website section.

## First time you open the app

You might see a **short loading screen** while your account loads. If a message appears saying the app is not set up correctly, that is not something you fix in the app — use the [website](https://www.melophrase.com/) or email **[support@melophrase.com](mailto:support@melophrase.com)** to get help.

## First-time questions (onboarding)

The first time you use Melophrase, you may be asked a few things:

1. **Welcome**
2. **Which language** you want to learn — Melophrase currently focuses on **European Portuguese**; other languages may appear here later
3. **Your level** (beginner to advanced)
4. **Daily goal** — how many **minutes per day** you aim for
5. **Done** — saves your answers

You can go through every step or **close** early; the app still picks sensible defaults so you can listen. You can change language, level, and daily goal anytime in **Settings**.
